The traditional production method of masterbatch

1. Traditional production mode of masterbatch

Most masterbatches are still made primarily from powdered pigments. The pigment required for a single color is fully mixed with the powdered plastic material through a dispersion agent, such as wax, and then dispersed in a twin-screw extruder to evenly distribute in the plastic material. Note: The effect of dispersion in the twin screw extruder in the laboratory is not consistent with the actual situation in the production line, so the color value must be checked and corrected at the beginning of production.

2. Use a single component to produce masterbatch

The production of a single color masterbatch is accomplished in two steps, one is the production of a single component, and then the masterbatch. Dispersion of pigments to high permissible concentrations in plastic materials is called one component method. At present, organic pigments with a high concentration of up to 40-50% and inorganic pigments with a high concentration of up to 75% can be dispersed into plastics by extrusion to obtain a good dispersion effect.

Note: good dispersion quality means that the pigment particles in the plastic are fine and can get as good color penetration ability as possible. On the other hand, pigments that exceed 5 microns are not allowed to agglomerate, so as not to form color spots. Colour adjustment and sampling of individual components in the laboratory and masterbatch production are performed by a single screw extruder. Since the pigment is already dispersed, the different individual components need only be melted and blended in a single screw extruder. Due to the same dispersion quality in the laboratory and the actual production, the actual transferability of the color value of raw materials obtained in the laboratory can be needed in the actual production.

3. Cost factors of extruded production

Extrusion production costs are dependent on the type and size of the machine used and the size of the processing batch.
